good bags

Clearly, I’m eying totes these days. These are by Amy Kathryn, about whom I know very little except that Bags! Pretty!

Someone cool should get this purse

shadow play hobo

The first fruits of spring, depicted on sturdy hemp canvas. A continuous strip of leather wraps around the photo-printed scene, providing structure and a touch of refinery. Inside zip pocket. Magnetic snap closure. seafoam. 12″l, 13″w, 3.5″d. Imported.

I love the delicacy of the pattern; it reminds me of this trompe l’oeil shadow painted on the wall behind the actual tree

Very beautiful, the both of them, but the art you can admire for free. The purse is on sale at Anthropologie - it’s almost half price (but still $125)

Franchi

There’s nothing so gorgeous as an totally impractical evening bag and this one is timeless. With the frame and beading detail, it’s probably big enough for lipstick, powder and cell and would liven up any basic black dress, but would be amazing with something silver or navy.

Antwerp Maya

I love the shape of this Kate Spade bag, but am having a hard time picturing it in real time. From the picture, I was imagining it to be similiar in size to a wristlet, but the description calls it an “over-the-shoulder satchel”, providing the relatively unhelpful dimensions of 9.8″ x 0″w x 5.5″d. Whatever. It’s cute and it’s backordered. I’ll worship from afar.

latico barcelona clutch

I saw this wristlet at Red Pearl in Williamsburg and fell in love with it. Not only is it small, but it’s still broad enough to hold a cell and lipstick and it’s got a lovely little mirror in the flap. I copied down the name and intended to look it up at home. Fortunately, I was able to locate it $30 less than at the store and with free shipping. Vive la Internet!

Seatbelt bags

These bags don’t generally appeal to me - a little too utilitarian and popular, like Uggs for your shoulder. This one, however, is a nice size and has a cute Mod appeal. And I’ve been a sucker for black and white check ever since I used checkered contact paper to cover up my cheap TV stand and turned it into something genuinely cool.

Gorgeous clutch

I’m well aware that this isn’t supposed to be an all-bags-&-shoes sort of blog, but I do seem to be on that as a kick. On the other hand, the tag line is “what I love today” and lately, that’s been it. This particular bag is wonderful - vibrant and clean and memorable. Never mind that I never manage to actually carry clutches because I’m afraid that I’ll forget keys/cell.favorite lipstick somewhere - in blog land, everything can be mine!

On the go

While I usually haul my life around in my bag, I love the idea of something sleek, just large enough for iD, credit card, cell and keys. This fits the bill, along with being vivid with eyecatching details. What a great little day bag for someone that isn’t me!

Travel bags

I hate checking bags; only do it when my trip is going to last longer than a couple of days. I love effective and attractive luggage. While these aren’t the least bit practical - the strap on the larger one wouldn’t fit over your shoulder if you were wearing a coat and it’s not padded or reinforced and would cut through your shoulder in minutes, they are very pretty and look to be a good size.

Things you don’t know that you need until you have it

Purse hooks are cool. It’s all very well and good to throw your bag on a spare chair or hook it over the back, but then it’s hanging off for waiters to spill soup or people to grope inside. The last thing you want is to put your pretty purse on the floor.
This hook folds flat to fit into your purse well, has a rubber grip to stay on the table well and is on sale.
