Like I wasn’t already enough of a Google devotee

they had to go and introduce this …

Google’s 46645 text-messaging service can fetch much more than phone numbers. It can also send you the weather report (in the body, type, for example, “weather sacramento”), stock quotes (“amzn”), where a movie is showing nearby (type “flushed away 44120″), what a word means (“define schadenfreude”), driving directions (“miami fl to 60609″), unit conversions (“liters in 5 gallons”), currency conversions (“25 usd in euros”), and so on.

Every cell carrier charges for text messages — about 10 cents each, unless you have a plan that includes them. But Google itself doesn’t charge for any of this. It’s not only ad-free, it’s free free.

I’m using it at least a couple of times a day - it’s fast and amazing.

Insurance

I hate the dentist - hate going, hate staying. In a manical effort to steer clear, I brush and floss a lot.

most people probably don’t bother with favorite floss, but this is mine. it’s broad, so it works between teeth, it’s flat so it slips between smoothly and yes, it’s what I love today. Tomorrow, I’ll shoot for something more glamorous!

and here’s my favorite toothpaste

Picture perfect

I’ve been up way too late for the past couple of nights, playing with my photos using Picasa. The editing tools are like the kinder, gentler (less effective, but it’s a fair trade) version of PhotoShop. You can send images directly from Picasa to friends using Gmail, you can make mediocre pictures into something really cool, you can function on 5 hours of sleep with visions of apricot tints and increased shadows dancing in your head.

Good stuff. And free!

Seriously! Click on the link and download it! What are you waiting for!?

Convenience

Today, I renewed all of my library books online, thus saving myself untold overdue fees and allowing a leisurely read of the last few chapters. Last week, I realized that I didn’t have any cash while standing in line for the bus that was supposed to run me to the airport.

No cash = no bus = missing plane = sad Adoxography!

Fortunately, the bus took the metro’s Fast Pass card, which I’d loaded with $20 for just such emergencies. And don’t get me started on how annoying life was before the ATM-VISA card. Things are hard enough most days - I love it when they can be simplified.
